+ + Partial Birth Abortion Ban Update + +
Friday, April 20, 2007
After more than thirty-four years of Court-allowed abortion on demand—at any time, for any reason—the Supreme Court of the United States has upheld a ban on an abortion procedure.
Hallelujah!
In a 5-4 decision, the Court ruled that Congress’ 2003 ban on partial-birth abortion is constitutional, meaning that the gruesome procedure may no longer be practiced in the United States of America.
This is what he hoped and prayed for when we elected pro-life legislators, even when their early efforts to end this procedure were vetoed by the then-President. This is what we hoped and prayed for when we elected pro-life Americans who would nominate and confirm judicial nominees. This is what we hoped and prayed for when two new Supreme Court justices were added to the bench.
Today, those years of hoping and praying have borne the best kind of fruit—the protection of defenseless lives.
Three years ago, Dr. Kennedy praised Congress and the President for enacting the ban on partial-birth abortion. “Unborn children cannon speak,” he noted, “but Congress and the President have spoken on their behalf. In so doing they have fulfilled what Thomas Jefferson called the ‘first and only legitimate object of good government,’ which is, he said, ‘the care of human life and happiness.’”
Jefferson recognized that we are all endowed by our Creator with an inalienable right to life. That endowment comes when life begins—and, biologically speaking, there is no debate but that human life begins at fertilization. The Scriptures agree about the humanity of the unborn. “For you created my inmost being,” the Psalmist David proclaims. “You knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13 NIV).
+ + Thank You + +
Thank you for joining with the Center for Reclaiming America for Christ in prayer. Thank you to the 196,422 of you whose petitions supporting the ban I delivered to the Court last November. Thank you to those of you who have supported this effort from its inception more than a decade ago. Today, your Wilberforcian tenacity in this battle is rewarded.
+ + From the Ruling + +
The ruling, written by Justice Anthony Kennedy, and joined by Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito, affirms that the government has “a legitimate and substantial interest in preserving and promoting fetal life.”
It states clearly that, “The law need not give abortion doctors unfettered choice in the course of their medical practice.”
It acknowledges the common sense reality that “some women come to regret their choice to abort the infant life they once created and sustained.”
You can read the opinion in its entirety by clicking here.
+ + Looking Ahead + +
The ruling is a token of the justness of our cause and our ultimate victory to come, as we continue to cry out for those being lead to destruction (Proverbs 31:8). This is the crack in the foundation of abortion on demand in America.
Savor the victory God has given!

The US was never "Christ's."
Never.
Ever hear of a little thing called "The Separation of Church and State?"
It's why the Pilgrims got on the Mayflower.
It's why Freedom of (and thus "from") Religion is in the Constitution, something which you hold very dear.
So, quit trying to claim that the US is, or once was, a "Christian nation."
Because it isn't. And it shouldn't be.
(This doesn't mean Christians shouldn't live in the US. Not at all. But don't assume that everyone living in that country would be hunky-dorey with having to live by your cockeyed rules, because if I want to construct and worship a golden calf, I should be able to walk into downtown Tulsa, build me a calf out of papier-mâché, spray-paint the sucker gold, and worship it in the town square. That'd be my right, if I was American. But if Biblical Literalists ran the country -- moreso, I mean -- I'd get hauled into jail for violating a Commandment. Which would be contrary to your Constitution. Whoops!)

Jason, Jason.
"It's why Freedom of (and thus "from")..."
That's a misinterpretation, but your perception.
U.S. is founded on Christian values, get over it. Yes, the early settlers left England partly to get away from the 'country's religion', but also from the rule of England. This is the difference of Canada's ancestors and United States ancestors. France still ruled the early Canadians, whereas those in America (before the American Revolution) actually seen themselves separated from England.
"This doesn't mean Christians shouldn't live in the US. Not at all. But don't assume that everyone living in that country would be hunky-dorey..."
Also don't assume everyone that states their a Christian are.
Stay comfortable in your Canadian secular humanist society, that left a vacuum in the soul.
